FUTURE STUDIES
SCENARIO TOPIC CONCLUDED FROM MINDMAPPING EXERCISE:
'The line between the product and humans becomes blurred'
'We have emotional relationships with products'
Expert questioned: BERNARD GUY (designer/developer of prosthetic limbs)
Questions: How will people experience physical products in 2030?
What does the future hold for prosthetic limbs?
Report:
· Bernard predicted vast technological and medical advances
· Prosthetic limbs will be more integrated into the body
· Increases abilities to mimic the natural human body's function
· Movements will be brain-controlled with the help of bionic neurons. These microchips will be injected into residual muscles to pick up movement signals from the brain and send them to the artificial limb. (already being developed)
· Artificial limbs will look a lot more like actual limbs. If you had not been told that someone has an artificial limb, you would never know. This means that amputees and people born with deformations can go through life without any disadvantages.
· Abilities of the artificial limb will outdo the natural body's abilities. Super-humans can be created.
· Prosthetics will be experienced as if they are part of the body, not as extensions to the body
